Gosh, it’s been a while.
When I last posted in mid-July, I was eager to kick off my 10-year campaign and get started planning for Cycle Forward’s next 10 years. While I’m still excited about this, making the time is another story. I feel like I’ve been in the weeds a bit this summer. I have projects I’m wrapping up and others that are just ramping up. I’ve been looking into ways to streamline operations and expand the business (see the job listing!). All the while, the cadence of summer and the loss of a dog have called for a slower, gentler pace.
Now in the final days of August, the back to school pics all over my Facebook feed remind me that a new season with the promise of crisper weather and a jolt of autumn energy are about to set in. Speaking of fall, see my events page for a list of upcoming presentations.
Cycle Forward’s 10th Anniversary Party to benefit Friends of the Riverfront
If you’re in or near Pittsburgh on October 1, please join me for Cycle Forward’s 10th Anniversary Party! We’ll be at Velum Fermentation in the South Side from 3-6 p.m. Help me celebrate 10 years in business, support a new brewery, AND know that you’ll be helping a local trail organization, Friends of the Riverfront. Velum will have a session IPA on tap and will donate $1 for each one sold that day (not just for my party, but for anyone imbibing throughout the entire day).
Not only this, but if you’re there for the party, your first drink is on me. Learn more on the event page.
Cycle Forward is Hiring!
I’m looking for a part-time project coordinator to help Cycle Forward to expand its operations. This is a contract position with varying hours (8-12 hours most weeks). This position has elements of various roles: administrative assistant, marketing coordinator, and operations manager. The ideal candidate for this position will be comfortable handling a variety of tasks that help Cycle Forward through an expansion in its 10th year of business. I am looking for someone who is detail- and solutions-oriented, is a strong researcher, and is willing to take on a variety of projects.
If you’re looking for supplementary income and are passionate about supporting communities through trails and outdoor recreation, please reach out to me at amy@cycleforward.org to discuss further. The hourly rate will be $20-30/hour, commensurate with experience. This position could potentially be expanded to a full-time role in the future.
In Gratitude
Today, my gratitude goes out to a sweet little dog named Poncho. My wife and I recently fostered Poncho through Senior Hearts Rescue & Renewal. He was with us for just 20 days, but certainly left an indelible mark on our hearts. Our task as his fosters was to get him healthy and ready for adoption. Unfortunately for Poncho and for us, we learned that he had advanced lymphoma and would have to be put down. We were honored to be the ones entrusted with his care in his last few weeks. I’m not trying to sugarcoat it; we were devastated by losing Poncho. But we are lucky to have known him. He was one of the sweetest dogs (though headstrong) and I wouldn’t trade those few weeks for anything. Thanks also to my clients and friends who’ve been so compassionate in this time. I know and work with the best people. There was a time that I kept my personal and professional lives quite separate. I’m glad the lines have been blurred over the years. We can see each other as whole humans and develop deeper, more meaningful relationships.
I am certain your next ten years will be as successful as the last 10! congratulations on your first decade.
