Join Me for a Deciding on Trails Book Club Discussion
The Mainspring Conservation Trust in Franklin, NC is featuring Deciding on Trails for its May book club gathering. I'll be joining in on the discussion. They've graciously said that anyone from anywhere can participate. If you've been wanting to be part of a Deciding on Trails book club conversation, this is your chance! It’s a virtual discussion via Zoom from 7-8 p.m. on May 25. Sign up by emailing Rachel Newcomb at rnewcomb@mainspringconserves.org.
Franklin, NC is located along the Appalachian Trail. I've heard that it was the first designated Appalachian Trail Community and am excited to take part in the conversation!
In addition to the upcoming book club conversation, I want to take some time today to share some other people’s news, events, and programs. Please take a look and consider participating in any of the following:
Trails for Us: How Trails Benefit Our Local Communities
I recently collaborated with Michele Archie of the Harbinger Consultancy. She has a deep understanding of communities, trails, and placemaking. I plan to attend her upcoming webinar (being offered through the Oregon Trails Coalition) on how trails benefit local communities and hope you will, too. Here’s the webinar description:
When we hear about economic benefits of trails, the focus is usually on the impact that visitor spending brings. But trails are first and foremost local resources, often constructed and maintained with no small amount of local commitment and effort. So how can we talk about the value of trails in a way that focuses on how trails benefit our communities? In this webinar, Michele Archie, principal of the Harbinger Consultancy, will review what studies tell us about how trails benefit communities and outlines some simple, practical ways you can demonstrate this for your own trails.

Lead{her}Shift LIVE 2022: a 3-Day Virtual Event
Shifting gears here from trails to TRANSFORMATION. My friend a fellow coach, Marissa Q. Paine is offering a 3-day virtual leadership event. I’ve always been wowed by Marissa’s leadership, drive, and ability to help others step into their power. (Here’s a blog post I did years ago featuring Marissa and two other women I admire.) As for the Lead{her}Shift event, here’s part of the description from Marissa’s website:
Lead{her}Shift LIVE 2022 is a Soul-Stirring Virtual Convening and Call-to-Action for Women Founders, CEOs, Entrepreneurs and Executives who are long overdue for a loving girl-you-can-do-this, get-your-mind-right-wake-up-call from a trusted girlfriend or for any professional women at the top of her game who can appreciate the energy and charge that comes from heartfelt panel discussions, convicting content, reflective action-planning and laugh out loud engagement with like-minded women from across the globe.
Continental Divide Trail Coalition Turns 10!
Last but not least…I’m on the board of the Continental Divide Trail Coalition, which turned 10 this year. We’re hosting a series of birthday bash events. Please check out the calendar of events and attend what you can. If you can’t attend but want to support our amazing work, please support our spring membership campaign. I love that its not just about the trail for us. It’s about the communities, the people, the culture, and stewarding the larger landscape. I’m proud to be involved.
