Deciding on Trails Published a Year Ago Today
Happy New Year, friends! I’m working a light schedule this week and am looking forward to a quiet holiday. My wife and I usually have a little New Year’s Eve feast, listen to music, and I can usually talk her into a game of Scrabble. On New Year’s Day, we take a hike and cook a nice meal (here’s our typical go-to “first day” dish). However you spend your New Year’s, I want to wish you a safe and happy weekend and a lovely year ahead.
A year ago today I quietly published Deciding on Trails: 7 Practices of Healthy Trail Towns. It’s not that I wasn’t bursting at the seams to let people know, but I didn’t want the news to get lost in the holiday mix. So I sat on my hands for a few days and then started actively promoting the book in early January.
What a fun time that was! In fact, all year, I enjoyed getting the book in the hands of people who are committed to improving their communities through trails. To date, I’ve sold 514 copies. The sales have been nice, but it’s never really been about the sales. I wrote Deciding on Trails to share what I know about the history and evolution of Trail Towns and to help communities along their path to better connecting to trails.
If this is the first time you’re hearing about Deciding on Trails, here’s my book page, with all sorts of info on the book, a sample chapter, and where to buy it. And here’s a direct link to the Amazon page, where you can see the reviews. By the way, if you’ve read the book and want to offer a review (wherever you rate and review your books), I’d love to know your thoughts.
Finally, I’d like to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me in this process. Every review, purchase, recommendation, word of encouragement, and pat on the back has been appreciated. I’ve said it before: this book gave me something to feel excited about during the pandemic. And then, once it was released, sharing it with others and knowing it was being used to affect positive change became even more exciting. Thank you!
