Hello, friends!
One of my favorite tourism quotes comes from Dan Shilling’s Civic Tourism. In it, Dan wrote about “…boutique towns where you can buy a rubber tomahawk but not a pair of brown socks.”
Anytime I share this quote people tend to get it. We instinctively want to live in authentic communities that are designed to serve the needs of local people before anything else. Community authenticity is something I think about a lot and is what got me to thinking about this one question:
What if we told communities they didn’t need to change a single thing about their place?
Would they be more authentic? Or less? Would there be missed opportunities (or not)? What would the implications be?
This exploration around authentic communities is the reason I created the upcoming Curiosity Series, which starts Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Here’s the problem, though (in the spirit of authenticity): people just aren’t signing up. I really want to move forward with Wednesday’s conversation. Will you please join me? It’s an hour of your time that I promise to fill with a thought-provoking discussion.
Here’s everything you need to know about this free series. You can use the link to register or just respond to this email and let me know you want to join me.
Thanks!
Amy
Next Week’s Topic is…
Next week’s Curiosity Series question is “Do we respect trail naysayers? Should we?”
This should be a fun one to explore. Learn more by visiting the event page. (Again, feel free to just let me know if you want to participate.)
