It’s Small Business Saturday – a day that we get to support small businesses in an impactful way as we kick off the holiday season. I love that in a five-day span, we can participate in #OptOutside, Small Business Saturday, and Giving Tuesday. Fifteen years ago, none of these existed. But now a spirit of giving, reciprocity, and more intentional purchases is part of our late November (and always has been for some).
Please consider how you can support small businesses in your community today and every day. Your purchase of their goods and services means more than it ever could to a national retailer. As a small business myself, I’m offering a 25% discount on my book, Deciding on Trails. If you’ve been meaning to pick up a copy so that you can make a difference in your community, today’s a good day to do so! (Use the code SHOPSMALL23 on my “Buy Directly from Amy” page, linked in the last sentence.)
Thanks for your support, friends, and happy Small Business Saturday!
Support Some Great Organizations on Giving Tuesday!
I’ve worked with dozens of organizations since I started Cycle Forward 10 years ago. Whether for a one-time workshop or speaking engagement or a more in-depth project, it’s been my pleasure to support the work of so many great nonprofits. If you’re undecided about how you will give this coming Giving Tuesday, here are some of my past and present clients who are participating. Likely, even more are involved, but these are the ones who had easy-to-find campaigns in place as of yesterday:
Allegheny Land Trust
Appalachian Trail Conservancy
Bicycle Colorado
Catawba Lands Conservancy
Champaign County Forest Preserve District
Continental Divide Trail Coalition*
Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance
Friends of the Riverfront
Global Links
New Sun Rising
North Country Trail Association
Pennsylvania Environmental Council
Pennsylvania Parks & Recreation Society
Rails-to-Trails Conservancy
Student Conservation Association
Three Rivers Waterkeeper
Tree Pittsburgh
Upstream Pittsburgh
*The Continental Divide Trail Coalition is the one organization on the list that has not been a client of mine. But I do serve on the board and believe in the work we’re doing to complete, promote, and protect the trail. Please check out our Giving Tuesday campaign or support us anytime through the end of the year here.
About Gratitude
Some of you have come to expect my Gratitude Notes at the end of each post. I love writing them and enjoy hearing your reactions. Rather than rushing through this early on a Saturday morning, I’ve been planning to share my gratitude reflection in Instagram later this weekend. If you’re not already following me on Instagram, please follow along for images of communities, trails, nature, and some occasional food and dog posts, too.
